The first Modulab event of 2018 takes on Fake Noise as a well of inspiration for our artists. And what a glorious line-up we have. These excellent artists create exciting cross-overs between modular electronic music and added compelling art form of their own choosing.
Liberating Electronic Music
The last performer at Modulab 2017 is rising star Kristian Jarich. He’s well known for his interlocked melodic sequences and intense spacious atmospheres. Although our venue was bitter cold that night, he provided us with warm and comforting waves.
Panenkov is a master in capturing your soul with his music. He usually starts off very simple and inviting. Before you know it you’ve arrived at an emotional mirror maze. A world only he can lead safely you out off. Eventually, he will… however not just yet.
Geluidsdrug Eindhoven ships two of their finest electronic music performers to Modulab Rituals. Krijn Hendriksen and Thomas Vreeke. Operating under the pseudonym Disruptive Bleepers, they create an immersive soundscape for us to drift in. There’s simply no escape.
Mister Sierra Romeo starts this set unpatched. Always nice to see him take off with a blank slate. Getting to see and enjoy the process of building up a live set. He guides us to an unknown place, like a modular ninja. Certainly one of his more experimental live sets.
We all know Allert Aalders is mister Sonar Traffic in Utrecht. The guy is so busy that it’s hard to get him to play live. We are so proud he paid us a visit at the Modulab Fall event. His set started dreamily and evolved to be a pretty remarkable experience.
Sendepause starts off with pairs of almost identical descending melody lines. Slowly building up layers with variations. Sounds like eighties-style game music composition on a modular synthesizer. Superimposed field recordings take you back to our current day.
SONICrider went through enormous artistic changes in 2017. Coming from a more dance-oriented place to performing Electroacoustic music sets. Seemingly more at ease with his artistic self and even more in close conversation with his expanding audience.
